Privacy Policy
The ACC is governed by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (the Act) with regard to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information. This policy is to be posted on the ACC website for all to see.
11.01 Accountability
The Board will appoint a Privacy Officer to be accountable for compliance with the Act and ACC privacy policy and report complaints to the board.
11.02 Purpose for collecting personal information
Personal information to be collected will be limited to such information required to enrol in an ACC event or activity, deal with a medical emergency, or other purpose deemed necessary by the Privacy Officer in compliance with the Act.
11.03 Consent
By providing personal information in any format, individuals are consenting to the use of the information for the purposes as defined in 2. For a minor, this information is to be provided by a parent or guardian. An individual may withdraw consent in writing to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information at any time. An ACC representative will inform the individual of the implications of such withdrawal.
11.04 Limiting collection
The collection of personal information must be limited to that which is needed by the ACC for the purposes outlined in section 2.
11.05 Limiting use, disclosure, and retention
Unless the individual consents otherwise or it is required by law, personal information can only be used or disclosed for the purposes for which it was collected. Personal information will be retained as long as reasonably necessary to enable an individual’s participation in ACC activities, maintain accurate historical records, or as required by law.
11.06 Accuracy
Personal information must be as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as possible in order to satisfy the purposes for which it is to be used.
11.07 Safeguards
Personal information will be protected by appropriate security to ensure it cannot be unlawfully obtained.
11.08 Openness
The ACC will make detailed information about its policies and practices relating to the management of personal information publicly and readily available.
11.09 Individual access
Upon request, an individual may be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of their personal information and be given access to that information. An individual shall be able to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate.
11.10 Challenging compliance
An individual shall be able to challenge the ACC’s compliance with the above principles. Their challenge should be addressed to the Privacy Officer whose contact information is to be available on the ACC website for all to see.
